The Tolar Rattlers will face off against the Breckenridge Buckaroos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Tolar is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Comanche on Friday. The Rattlers fell just short of the Indians by a score of 36-33.
Although Tolar took the loss, they still got scores from Kheyon Murray, Noah Boulanger, Walker Norton, Cayden Abrego, and Kelvin Murray.
Meanwhile, Breckenridge hadn't done well against Eastland recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Buckaroos blew past the Mavericks 35-6. The Buckaroos' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Tolar better keep an eye on Jaime Cruz. He was instrumental in Breckenridge's win, rushing for 137 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Cruz didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made three total tackles. Another player making a difference was Ryan Waller, who picked up 116 receiving yards and one TD.
Breckenridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Breckenridge's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Tolar, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Tolar has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 171.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Breckenridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 155 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Tolar against Breckenridge when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-6 win. Do the Rattlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buckaroos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
