It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Edgewater Eagles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-64 victory over Northeast. Given Edgewater's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Northeast is ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Edgewater found their leader in underclassman Donovan Williams Jr., who scored 19 points along with five steals. Williams Jr. hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Zion Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Edgewater's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Northeast, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season.
Edgewater will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Winter Haven at 7:30 p.m. Winter Haven will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak. Northeast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Monarch at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Monarch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Friday.
