Pike Central is 2-8 against Washington since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pike Central Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Washington Hatchets at 7:30 p.m. Pike Central is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, Pike Central came up short against Henderson County and fell 53-46. While losing is never fun, Pike Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 311th in Indiana, while Henderson County is ranked third in Kentucky).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Julian Gish, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Ridao, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Pike Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Washington beat Forest Park 52-46 last Saturday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Washington.
Pike Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Pike Central came up short against Washington in their previous meeting back in January, falling 55-48. Can Pike Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
