Chaparral snuck past Douglas County with a 41-35 victory on Tuesday. Given Chaparral's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Douglas County is ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Chaparral to victory were Lauren Thompson and Reagan Lentell. Thompson scored 12 points along with six rebounds, while Lentell dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Lentell hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Jade Monroe was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Douglas County still got an impressive performance from Sofia Baldessari, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 48.6% of Douglas County's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Delaney Whitaker, who scored three points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Douglas County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.
Chaparral will be playing in front of their home fans against Legend at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Legend focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Douglas County, they will head out on the road to take on Castle View at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
