Basketball Recap: Nicholas Gamble Key Part of a Team Effort in Panthers Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Brookhaven ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past the North Pike Jaguars with a 48-44 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 50-40 on January 7th.

Brookhaven's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nicholas Gamble, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. What's more, Gamble also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jamarion Cooper, who posted 19 points and five rebounds.

Brookhaven smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Brookhaven is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for North Pike, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-8.

Brookhaven has already played their next match (against Natchez), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. North Pike will be playing in front of their home fans against South Jones at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
