Checotah gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Okmulgee Bulldogs, posting a 62-28 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wildcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 229th).
Checotah's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Rolland, who threw for 198 yards and five TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground. Rolland is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Checotah also got help from Landynn Thomason, who showed off his sure hands for 129 receiving yards.
Checotah didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Traegan Duvall and Hudson Pollard. Duvall got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Checotah will challenge Seminole at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Okmulgee, they will take on Mounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
