Basketball Recap: Basalt Comes Up Short

Basalt was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 65-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Peak to Peak Pumas. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Pumas are ranked ninth).

Despite the loss, Basalt still got an impressive performance from Elias Schendler, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. That's the most points Schendler has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Zealand Lane, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Elijah Eschmeyer had a dynamite game for Peak to Peak, going 7 of 15 on his way to 24 points in addition to six rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Boonstra, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 16 points along with six boards and three steals.

Basalt now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Peak to Peak, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

After both having extra time off, Basalt and Roaring Fork will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 4:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Roaring Fork is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season. As for Peak to Peak, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-50 win against Holy Family on the 21st.
