Coronado and Las Vegas are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Cougars will head out to challenge the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coronado will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Coronado is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Chaparral get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Gavin Rogers, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Lorenzo Bradley also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Coronado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .680. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Las Vegas faced Faith Lutheran in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 10-9. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Crusaders recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
GAGE MCCOWN made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of BRYDEN BULL, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Coronado's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-15. As for Las Vegas, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coronado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Las Vegas struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coronado might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Las Vegas in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
