The Morningside Academy Eagles will face off against the South Fork Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morningside Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.9 runs per game this season.
Morningside Academy was handed a 17-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Bayside 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Trinity Richards was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but South Fork ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Treasure Coast, sneaking past 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Mackenzie Brown spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Ortiz, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
South Fork hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
South Fork pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Morningside Academy, they moved to 14-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Both Morningside Academy and South Fork just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. However, it's not like South Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morningside Academy suffered a grim 18-1 defeat to South Fork in their previous meeting on Monday. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
