Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Saint Mary's Hall's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Saint Mary's Hall was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against the St. Anthony Yellowjackets as Saint Mary's Hall made off with an 11-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Barons, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meryl Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Jones was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Torrey Baker was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Thienpont, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one triple.

Saint Mary's Hall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Anthony only managed nine hits.

Saint Mary's Hall is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4-1 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.75 hits in those games compared to only 4.6 in the others. St. Anthony dropped their record down to 5-9 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Saint Mary's Hall is set to square off against their familiar foe San Antonio Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Saint Mary's Hall 2.4, San Antonio Christian 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, St. Anthony will face off against rival Providence Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
