The Leon Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 56-31 defeat at the hands of Godby. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Leon in their matchups with Godby: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Leon had strong showings from Tanner Owens, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, and Aneila Pierre, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Godby was led to victory by Cristina Brown and Aniyah Lewis. Brown dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Lewis dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten rebounds, and 11 steals. That's the first time this season that Lewis scored 15 or more points. Logan Cornelius was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Leon's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.4 points per game. As for Godby, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Florida State University High School at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Florida State University High School has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Godby, they will head out on the road to face off against Rickards at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rickards is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
