The Cape Fear Colts put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Seventy-First 89-53 at home. Considering Cape Fear has won five contests by more than 35 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Jayda Angel, who dropped a double-double on 40 points and ten steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Cape Fear's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teralyn Harris, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Seventy-First lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kariana Williams, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Williams' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Mariyah Massey was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Seventy-First were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Fear only pulled down 22 offensive rebounds.
Cape Fear pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 47.33 points. As for Seventy-First, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Fear won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Pine Forest at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Pine Forest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 179th, while Cape Fear is ranked 27th). Seventy-First won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pender at 4:00 p.m. on December 20th. Pender is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
