Basketball Recap: Liam O'grady's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dasche over Red River

If DasCHE was feeling good fresh off their 79-45 takedown of Newman International Academy last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between the DasCHE Spartans and the Red River Rattlers didn't end well, with the DasCHE Spartans falling 76-62. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 596th, while the Rattlers are ranked 289th).

DasCHE lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Liam O'Grady, who went 9 for 12 en route to 21 points and eight rebounds. Those 21 points gave O'Grady a new career-high. Jadon Comeaux was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points along with five assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, DasCHE was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Red River only racked up 11 assists.

Red River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Corban Tyler led the charge by going 7 for 13 en route to 22 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Tyler's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Burnside, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 24 points.

DasCHE has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Red River, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

DasCHE didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 87-51 defeat against St. Mark's on the 18th. Red River has also already played their next match, a 77-29 win against Panhandle Christian Home Educators on the 24th.
