Football Recap: Ty Cummings Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat North Clayton + How To Watch

West Laurens won the last time they faced North Clayton and things went their way on Friday too. The Raiders secured a 28-22 W over the Eagles. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Raiders were down 15-0 in the second quarter.

West Laurens' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ty Cummings led the charge by rushing for 222 yards and one touchdown while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. Cummings showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 65 yards. Branden Brooks also helped out as he racked up 106 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Laurens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 373 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.

Another reason for the win was West Laurens' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Maxx Chafin, Shannon Adkins, and Ethan Cason-Guyton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Hunter Castellaw was another major factor on D, making 20 total tackles.

North Clayton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Triston Maggit, who picked up 181 receiving yards and one score, and Dre'Von Glass, who gained 98 total yards.

West Laurens has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 38.5 points this season. As for North Clayton, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

West Laurens didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 46-7 victory against Howard on the 5th. As for North Clayton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 27-6 win against Riverdale on the 5th.
