After both having extra time off, the Riverton Silverwolves and the Syracuse Titans will shake off the rust and duke it out at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Riverton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Herriman, who was ranked sixth at the time (Riverton was ranked 17th). The Silverwolves fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Silverwolves haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Riverton wouldn't go down easily and took Herriman into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 15-13.
Meanwhile, Syracuse came up short against Farmington on Thursday and fell 3-1.
While Syracuse ultimately came up short, they really made Farmington work, particularly in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20.
Despite the loss, Syracuse saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zane Nanney had five digs and one block. Nanney also set a new season-high mark in assists with 29.
Riverton's defeat dropped their record down to 14-14. As for Syracuse, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Riverton has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Syracuse struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.7 aces.
