Basketball Recap: Mckinney School of Art Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Summit Academy

On Wednesday, McKinney School of Art faced Summit Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. McKinney School of Art came up short against the Summit Academy Eagles, falling 97-71. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (66), McKinney School of Art still had to take the loss.

McKinney School of Art's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Romeo Riley, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Riley is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Micheal Mistretta, who posted 26 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Summit Academy found their leader in sophomore Justin Rodriguez, who put up 40 points along with six boards and six steals. Rodriguez's afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cincere Tucker, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds.

McKinney School of Art's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Summit Academy, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

McKinney School of Art will take on Morel Campos in a holiday battle at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at. As for Summit Academy, they will face off against Barton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
