Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Tolono Unity's 11th in Last 12 Outings

Tolono Unity had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Illinois Valley Central on Friday. The Rockets put the hurt on the Grey Ghosts with a sharp 15-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won 16 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Danika Eisenmenger spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Grace Bickers was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jenna Adkins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Tolono Unity was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Illinois Valley Central only posted a batting average of .250.

Tolono Unity has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Illinois Valley Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-12.

Looking ahead, Tolono Unity will be playing at home against St. Teresa at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Illinois Valley Central, they will head out on the road to take on St. Thomas More at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Grey Ghosts are facing the Sabers at the right time seeing as the Sabers are stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
