Softball Recap: Fairmont Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Fairmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Pender Patriots 9-8. This was a revenge game for the Golden Tornadoes: when they faced off against the Patriots two weeks ago, they had to take a 4-3 loss.

Fairmont let Jamey Quinata and Kensley Newberry run wild. Quinata went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two doubles, while Newberry scored three runs while going 5-for-6. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimberleigh Stevens, who scored a run while going 2-for-6.

Fairmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .420. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fairmont has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Pender, they moved to 10-4 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Fairmont has already played their next game, a 7-1 loss against Midway on the 4th. As for Pender, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Whiteville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
