It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the St. Rita Mustangs had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Marist by a score of 24-14. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but St. Rita was the (much) better team in the second half.
St. Rita got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jimmie Maxson iii out in front who picked up 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Steven Armbruster, who threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.
St. Rita has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 7-5 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Marist, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
St. Rita will stay at home for another week and welcome Kenwood at 10:00 a.m. on November 24th. Kenwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 71st, while St. Rita is ranked 14th). Marist does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
