The home team had won the previous five meetings between Grayslake Central and Lakes, and Lakes kept the tradition alive. The Rams fell 2-0 to the Eagles on Thursday. The Rams' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Lakes scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-17.

Lakes can attribute much of their success to Lovelyn Zamora, who had six digs and three aces. That's the most aces Zamora has posted since back in September.

Grayslake Central's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 20-9. As for Lakes, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-8.

Grayslake Central and Lakes should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Rams will take on Zion-Benton at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (111 vs. 559). Meanwhile, Lakes (ranked 126th) will meet Lake Forest (ranked 357th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
