Basketball Recap: Rochester Comes Up Short

Rochester was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They were beaten by the Franklin Pierce Cardinals 85-39. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the Cardinals are ranked 140th).

Despite the loss, Rochester still got an impressive performance from Kole Smith, who posted 17 points. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Weiss, who scored eight points.

Franklin Pierce was led to victory by Javon Barbee and Hakeen Collins. Barbee dropped a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds, while Collins dropped a double-double on 28 points and 14 boards. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Barbee has scored at least a third of Franklin Pierce's points. Abinidi Semeli also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Rochester's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Franklin Pierce, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Rochester has already played their next contest, a 54-35 loss against Montesano on the 10th. As for Franklin Pierce, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-35 win against Steilacoom on the 10th.
