The Midway Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Kingsville Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Midway has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Midway took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against Rich Hill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vikings came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers on Tuesday, sneaking past 12-11. The high-scoring effort was just what the Vikings needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
The team relied heavily on Laicey Anderson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Michaela Brown, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kingsville). They were the clear victors by a 20-9 margin over Rich Hill on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Kingsville.
Kingsville got a massive performance out of Kylie Stout, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Sylvia Schoenberger also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Kingsville picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-12. As for Midway, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-10 record.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Midway hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Kingsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Midway came out on top in a nail-biter against Kingsville when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
