Naugatuck Valley - Copper recap Nov. 7, 2012
Woodland Regional extended the longest winning streak in Naugatuck Valley - Copper this week by beating Holy Cross, 28-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Naugatuck took down Watertown 52-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jason Bradley threw for 181 yards and five touchdowns in the win.
Anthony Scirpo was the best wideout in the league this week as Woodland Regional topped the Crusaders. Scirpo tallied 12 receptions for 125 yards. Brian Reis helped Woodland Regional's passing attack out by catching nine balls for 60 yards.
Joe Masulli was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 88 yards as Tim Shea's team defeated Holy Cross. Teammate Scirpo added to the ground attack by rushing for two yards.
St. Paul Catholic's Logan Marchi and Daija Fitzpatrick have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Naugatuck Valley - Copper in both passing and receiving yards. Marchi has thrown for 1974 yards this season, while Fitzpatrick, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 42 catches for 664 yards. The Greyhounds' Mick Pernell leads the league in rushing yards with 801.
Entering into this week's contest against Michael Giampetruzzi's team, Marchi is short just 26 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Crusaders take on St. Paul Catholic. Holy Cross is in third place, while Jude Kelly's team is in sixth place.
Torrington led the league in scoring this week after putting up 67 points on Kennedy.
