Providence Prep is 3-0 against the Jaguars since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Providence Prep Rams will head out on the road to take on the NYOS Charter Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. NYOS Charter took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Providence Prep, who comes in off a win.
In what's become a running theme this season, Providence Prep gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They really took it to Memorial Christian Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-22 victory at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Providence Prep just coasted through the last quarter.
Providence Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asa Jackson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Jackson hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Clark Morrison, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, NYOS Charter's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to Meridian. Even though they lost, NYOS Charter's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Despite their defeat, NYOS Charter saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lucas Harman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harman has scored all season. Mark-Anthony Amichia was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.
Providence Prep pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for NYOS Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Providence Prep have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like NYOS Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Providence Prep didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Jaguars when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 44-40 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was NYOS Charter's Trey Huff, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Providence Prep still be able to contain Huff? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
