The Lakeland Christian Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 21 points or more this season. They blew past Santa Fe Catholic, posting a 54-26 win on the road. Given Lakeland Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Santa Fe Catholic is ranked 625th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sarah Bennett was her usual excellent self, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Collette Zavada, who scored 15 points.
Santa Fe Catholic lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Copeland Collany, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and five steals. Collany is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Takira Watson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.
Lakeland Christian's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Santa Fe Catholic, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Lakeland Christian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Excel Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Santa Fe Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ridgeview Global Studies Academy at 11:00 a.m. on December 16th.
