Basketball Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Independence faced off against Pope John Paul II on Friday. The Independence Tigers took a hard 56-42 fall against the Pope John Paul II Jaguars. The Tigers have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Independence lost, don't look at Jayden Anderson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. Anderson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last five games he's played. Haymann Milton was another key player, putting up eight points.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 17-16. As for Pope John Paul II, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 11-13.

Independence wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-61 victory against Mandeville on the 18th. As for Pope John Paul II, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-55 defeat against Albany on the 18th.
