Richfield hasn't had much luck against Juab recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Wasps at 3:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Friday, it was close, but Richfield sidestepped North Sanpete for a 6-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Garrett Wayman made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wayman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Malik Fautin was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
Meanwhile, Juab had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Rabbits. With that victory, the Wasps brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Trevin Park, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madix Stowell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Juab always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Juab pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Richfield, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Richfield might still be hurting after the 19-4 defeat they got from Juab in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
