The Overbrook Panthers had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 60-55 W over Maritime Academy Charter on Thursday. Given Overbrook's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while the Seadogs are ranked 655th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Omar Davis was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nashawn Jones, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
Despite the loss, Maritime Academy Charter saw an underclassman step up: Andy Figueroa scored 29 points. Figueroa is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Jaseer Mann was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Maritime Academy Charter were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The win got Overbrook back to even at 11-11. As for Maritime Academy Charter, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Overbrook will stay at home for another game and welcome the at 4:15 p.m. on February 8th. Maritime Academy Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
