In what's become a running theme this season, the Windsor Charter Academy Firebirds gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. Everything went their way against DSST: Cedar as Windsor Charter Academy made off with a 62-42 win. Given Windsor Charter Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while DSST: Cedar is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Windsor Charter Academy was led to victory by Kellen Ball and Brayden Cole. Ball scored 20 points along with two steals, while Cole dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Cole also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Brody Unruh, who scored five points along with seven assists and three steals.
Matthew Stophel and Semahje Kalanda certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Stophel scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks, while Kalanda scored 14 points.
Windsor Charter Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for DSST: Cedar, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Windsor Charter Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on SkyView Academy at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. As for DSST: Cedar, they will head out on the road to take on DSST: College View at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. DSST: College View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully DSST: Cedar likes a good challenge.
