The Palmetto Tigers just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Palmetto waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They didn't even let Bayshore onto the board and left with a 1-0 victory.
Charlotte posted their biggest win since December 6, 2023 on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 55-35 margin over IMG Academy Blue. Given Charlotte's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while IMG Academy Blue is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Charlotte found their leader in underclassman Kamie Ellis, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Ellis also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Lazaiya Kinville was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Palmetto's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Charlotte, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Palmetto was dealt a bruising 84-34 loss at the hands of Charlotte in their previous matchup back in February of 2021. Can Palmetto avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
