Two dominant signal callers in Quentyn Demara and Akili Smith Jr. are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The University City Centurions will be playing at home against the Lincoln Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
University City had to endure a eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Scripps Ranch 33-30.
University City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Demara led the charge by throwing for 347 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 82 yards on only eight carries. Joshua Dixon was another key contributor, picking up 179 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lincoln put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their undefeated season alive. They breezed by St. Augustine at home to the tune of 42-7. Fans of Lincoln have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a stomp.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aden Jackson, who rushed for 36 yards and two touchdowns. Lincoln also got help from Dreyden Garner who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding St. Augustine to a paltry 156 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lincoln's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jamarion Herbert and his two sacks.
Finally capturing their first win of the season, University City advanced to 1-7. As for Lincoln, their victory was their 12th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. University City has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 393.1 total yards per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been even better at 417 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
