William Campbell hasn't had much luck against Appomattox County recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Generals will head out on the road to take on the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. William Campbell has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for William Campbell's offense. They came up short against Chatham last Wednesday, falling 16-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Generals were not able to get on the board.
William Campbell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Puckette, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Appomattox County nor Buckingham made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Raiders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 3-0 shutout. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Not much got past Chloe Vaughan, who gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Buckingham off the board. Vaughan has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Paisley Mann was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Bryant, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Appomattox County's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for William Campbell, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. William Campbell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Appomattox County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
William Campbell might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Appomattox County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Generals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
