After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rockville, the North Branford Thunderbirds were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Morgan and snuck past 37-34. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
North Branford found their leader in underclassman AJ Sigel, who rushed for 312 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 43 yards and a touchdown. Sigel was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 69 yards. Another player making a difference was Tommy Hansen, who gained 114 total yards and a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Morgan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jack Nye. Despite the final result, he picked up 196 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Powell, who threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns.
North Branford's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Morgan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
North Branford will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cromwell/Portland at 6:30 p.m. As for Morgan, they will head out on the road to face off against Valley Regional/Old Lyme at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
