The Hillsboro Spartans will take on the David Douglas Scots in a tournament on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hillsboro's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past North Salem 32-0. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Milo Jackson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jackson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Owen Leahy was incredible, scoring five runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Riley McConnell was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for David Douglas, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over North Salem on Thursday.
Like Hillsboro, David Douglas also got a great game from a two-way player: Parker Hall. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Hall was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Osvaldo Lopez-Thorsne, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
The victory got David Douglas back to even at 1-1. As for Hillsboro, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Everything went Hillsboro's way against David Douglas when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Hillsboro made off with a 12-1 win. Will Hillsboro repeat their success, or does David Douglas has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
