The Goldthwaite Eagles will challenge the Bangs Dragons at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Goldthwaite has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Goldthwaite is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 17-8 to Johnson City.
Isak Rainlend and Owen Campbell stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rainlend scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Campbell scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bangs). Everything went their way against Sonora on Monday as Bangs made off with a 24-1 win. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Skylar Minshew made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
In other batting news, Rex Guerrero was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Connor Bible was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
Bangs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bangs pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Goldthwaite, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Goldthwaite couldn't quite finish off Bangs when the teams last played back in February and fell 9-7. Will Goldthwaite have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
