West Las Vegas has gone 8-2 against Ruidoso recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. West Las Vegas will be taking part in a tournament against Ruidoso at 2:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with West Las Vegas sitting on seven straight wins and Ruidoso on three.
West Las Vegas' tournament run continued when they took on Capitan on Friday. West Las Vegas put the hurt on Capitan with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Dons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Malie Satete was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Bryanna Montoya was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Tyra Horner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Ruidoso was able to grind out a solid win over Santa Fe Indian on Friday, taking the game 9-5.
Jaya Trujillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, Ruidoso got a massive performance out of Talyn Ramos, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Ramos a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexx Chavez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and one double.
Ruidoso was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Fe Indian only posted a batting average of .323.
West Las Vegas' victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Ruidoso, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Las Vegas has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Ruidoso struggles in that department as they've averaged .588. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Las Vegas took their victory against Ruidoso in their previous matchup back in March of 2020 by a conclusive 18-8. Does West Las Vegas have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ruidoso turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
