Basketball Recap: Karsyn Messina Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Guilderland

Ballston Spa hadn't done well against Guilderland recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Ballston Spa Scotties managed a 50-46 victory over the Guilderland Flying Dutchmen. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Scotties also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Ballston Spa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karsyn Messina, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 14 points and five steals. Messina has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mallory Sprissler, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Guilderland lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Christina Williams, who went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Lilley, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Ballston Spa's record is now 9-4. As for Guilderland, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ballston Spa has already played their next game (against Colonie Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Guilderland will head out on the road to face off against Saratoga Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Guilderland is facing Saratoga Springs at the right time seeing as Saratoga Springs is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
