The Clover Blue Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 35 points or more this season. They really took it to Blacksburg for the full four quarters, racking up a 85-46 victory on the road. With Clover ahead 53-16 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Clover's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaylon Hoover, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 3 assists. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Owen Galeota, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Blacksburg's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tracy Smith, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Jacob Gilfillan was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
The victory (which was Clover's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.0 points per game. As for Blacksburg, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clover will take on Gaffney at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Gaffney and Clover are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Blacksburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chesnee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Chesnee has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
