Yerington is 2-8 against West Wendover since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Yerington scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Silver Stage at home to the tune of 68-32. The win made it back-to-back wins for Yerington.
Yerington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Noah Thom led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kp Picotte jr, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, West Wendover had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They claimed a resounding 67-38 win over North Tahoe on the road. West Wendover has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 25 points or more this season.
Osvaldo Carrillo was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Estaban Correa, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Yerington is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for West Wendover, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Thom and Adryan Carlos. Thom has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 16.1 points and 2.5 steals. For his part, Carlos has averaged 17.6 points, 2.1 blocks, and 2.9 steals.
Yerington came up short against West Wendover in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 50-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Carlos, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
