UMS-Wright Prep suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 23-19 loss to UMS-Wright Prep. The Bulldogs had been ranked 22nd, but fell to 29 following the defeat.
Andalusia was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 4A Region 1. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs triumphed over Opp 22-14.
Michael McCalman and Michael McCalman gave Andalusia a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. McCalman threw for 83 yards and one touchdown, while McCalman ran for 153 yards. Teammate Javonte Johnson added to the ground attack by rushing for 114 yards.
Jaylon Jones was the best wideout in the league this week as UMS-Wright Prep bested Bayside Academy. Jones tallied four receptions for 65 yards. Tyrone Dixon helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 55 yards.
Brian Seymore's team's McCalman and Keontya Johnson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCalman has thrown for 612 yards this season, while Johnson, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has seven catches for 226 yards. Troy Dixon from Terry Curtis's team leads the league in rushing with 777 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Region 1 this week will be when Monroe County takes on the Bulldogs. The Tigers are currently in fourth, while UMS-Wright Prep is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Bulldogs take on Clarke County. Andalusia has allowed 88 points this season, while the Bulldogs have given up 77. The Bulldogs allowed 14 points last week as they topped the Bobcats.
The Bulldogs extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Admirals, 23-19. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
