Piper Tessier made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dixie Tessier, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lydia Smith was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
University Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Johns Country Day only posted an OBP of .056.
Meanwhile, Harvest Community had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Parsons Christian Academy 23-1 on Tuesday.
Like University Christian, Harvest Community also got a great game from a two-way player: Naomi Winburn. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Winburn was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Harvest Community got a massive performance out of Bella Reding, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Reding has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emilia Drozdzowski, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Harvest Community's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for University Christian, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.
Both University Christian and Harvest Community just can't seem to miss. The Christians have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Harvest Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
University Christian took their victory against Harvest Community in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 17-1 score. Do the Christians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
