It was a good run, but the Canyon Springs Pioneers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 51-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sunrise Mountain. Canyon Springs was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sunrise Mountain apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Saniya Bond, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Bond also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Jasmine Legardy was another key contributor, scoring two points along with ten rebounds.
Sunrise Mountain found their leader in underclassman Delyla Ross, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and eight steals. Ross has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mekhia Williams, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Canyon Springs' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Sunrise Mountain, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canyon Springs will take on Foothill at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Foothill is ranked 42nd, while Canyon Springs is ranked 24th). Sunrise Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Eldorado at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th. Eldorado is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
