The big prize for Findlay Prep would be ending the Houston school's 66-game win streak – the nation's longest – live on ESPN (9 p.m. EST).
The recent resumes of both programs has created a major build-up for the game. Findlay Prep won high school basketball's mythical national crown in 2009 and has captured back-to-back National High School Invitational titles.
Yates is Texas' two-time defending state champ at the 4A level and replaced the Pilots as national champ in 2010.
The scoring exploits of both teams suggests the nationally-televised showdown could be a race to the rim for the ages. Findlay Prep has scored 100 or more points in nine of 15 contests this season, including totals of 138, 136 and 127.
A year after breaking a national record by averaging 116.2 points per game, Yates is posting 110.7 per outing with a season-high of 128. The Lions have not lost since Dec. 20, 2008 – a two-point setback against Alief Elsik. Using an ultra-aggressive, end-to-end trapping style, the Houston powerhouse has won 101 of its last 104 games dating back to the 2007-08 campaign.
