Central is a perfect 4-0 against Greater Johnstown since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Dragons will challenge the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central has four straight wins, Greater Johnstown has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Central's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Bishop Guilfoyle. Considering the Dragons have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Coltin Harbaugh looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Central got a massive performance out of Wyatt Dilling, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Dilling has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Muthler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Guilfoyle only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Greater Johnstown came up short against Westmont Hilltop on Tuesday, falling 14-4.
Greater Johnstown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brock Kobal, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Tyler Penrod also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Greater Johnstown's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Central, their record now sits at 4-1.
Greater Johnstown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. It's a different story for Greater Johnstown, though, as they've only averaged .331. Will they be able to contain Central's hitters?
Central took their victory against Greater Johnstown when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
