Eagle dropped their record down to 11-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Mountain View Mavericks, falling 12-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Mustangs, who until this match were averaging 3.58 runs allowed.
Stephen Egan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
At the plate, Easton Gothberg made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
As for Mountain View, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The result was nothing new for Mountain View, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
On Mountain View's side, Owen Perry spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
On the hitting side, Seth Hecox and Preston Flournoy did most of the damage at the plate: Hecox went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Flournoy went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Flournoy has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Schneidt, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Eagle is set to face off against their familiar foe Owyhee at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.6, the Storm 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Mountain View will challenge rival Kuna at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
