The Salmen Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 57-48 to Woodlawn-B.R.. While losing is never fun, Salmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Woodlawn-B.R. is ranked 33rd).
Salmen's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Akayla Mcmooain, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Mcmooain hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Bennett, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Salmen has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Woodlawn-B.R., the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salmen will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bogalusa at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Bogalusa is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Woodlawn-B.R. will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Glen Oaks at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Glen Oaks is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
