1A Metro recap September 24, 2013
Jefferson added to the longest winning streak in 1A Metro this week by beating Front Range Christian, 21-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Platte Canyon took down Nederland 53-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hank Bode ran for 155 yards in the win.
Chandler Morgan was the best receiver in the league this week as Clear Creek lost to Lyons. Morgan racked up 2 receptions for 111 yards. Jared Cook helped Clear Creek's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 14 yards.
Dontae Deloach made the biggest impact on defense this week as Jefferson beat the Falcons. The 6-foot-3 senior.
Cameron Washburn put up the best numbers in passing as Anthony Rankin's team defeated Front Range Christian. He had a total of 12 completions for 205 yards. Washburn's favorite target this week was Lawrence Salazar, who caught 5 passes for 86 yards.
Logan Watson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 167 yards on 20 carries as the Lions fell to the Lions. Teammate Trent Poulsen added to the ground attack by rushing for 123 yards.
Watson was a passing and rushing force as Lyons defeated Clear Creek. Watson's favorite target this week was Austin Myers, who caught 3 passes for 71 yards.
Jefferson's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Saints feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Washburn has thrown for 967 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Salazar has 14 catches for 477 yards.
An important game coming up in 1A Metro this week will be when Brian Inman's team takes on the Saints. The Golddiggers are in fourth place, while Jefferson is in second place.
Brandon Wilkes' team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,253 from 10,351. The advance stemmed from a 28-7 victory over Clear Creek last week.
