On Tuesday, The Sanford Spartans faced the Noble Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sanford won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Noble 21-20. The victory was some much needed relief for Sanford as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Noble's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jamier Rose, who rushed for 172 yards while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and Tommy Gagnon who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Gagnon hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games.
Sanford's victory bumped their record up to 7-5-1. As for Noble, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Sanford will face off against Thornton Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Noble, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Bonny Eagle at 7:00 p.m. Bonny Eagle knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Noble likes a good challenge.
