The Jefferson Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 73-30 loss at the hands of Alamo Heights. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1361st, while Alamo Heights is ranked 201st).
Leading Alamo Heights to victory were Talaiyah Andrews and Sophia Zadel. Andrews dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Zadel dropped a double-double on 28 points and 17 rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Berkley Hart, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Jefferson has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for Alamo Heights, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.
Jefferson will be home for the holidays to greet Highlands at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highlands is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Alamo Heights, they will head out on the road to face off against Lanier at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
