V Section III recap Oct. 3, 2012
Morenci extended the longest winning streak in V Section III this week by beating Globe, 27-6. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Tanque Verde took down Baboquivari 65-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Thatcher's dynamic duo of Presley Motes and Jacob Drage proved tough for Safford to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Motes threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns and Drage had 101 yards receiving. Mitch Fullenwider helped Thatcher's passing attack out by catching four balls for 75 yards.
James Sargent was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 204 yards on 21 carries as Tombstone defeated the Bulldogs. Teammate Bryant James added to the ground attack by rushing for 100 yards.
Brandon Jorgensen made the biggest impact on defense this week as Thatcher bested Safford. The 6-foot-3 junior grabbed two sacks.
Thatcher's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Motes has thrown for 789 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Drage has 27 catches for 461 yards. Garet Kartchner leads the league in rushing with 625 yards.
A big matchup in V Section III this week will be when Morenci takes on the Yellow Jackets. At the moment, Frank Ogas's team is in first, while Tombstone is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Dave Jefferies's team takes on Willcox. The Eagles have allowed 55 points this season, while the Cowboys have given up 58. Thatcher allowed 7 points last week as it topped Mike Alba's team.
The Hawks led the league in scoring this week after putting up 65 points on the Warriors.
